Italian LimesThrough an immersive and interactive installation that connects an automated drawing machine in the Arsenale with a network of GPS sensors installed on an Alpine glacier at 3,300 metres above sea level, Italian Limes unveils the political dimension intrinsic to the problem of representing territory. The exhibition shows how natural frontiers are subject to the complexity of continuous ecological processes, depending on the technologies and norms we use to represent it.
On May 4th, 2014, the Italian Limes team installed a network of solar-powered GPS units on the surface of the Similaun glacier, following a 1-km-long section of the border between Italy and Austria, in order to monitor the movements of the ice sheet throughout the duration of the exhibition at the Corderie dell’Arsenale.

	Ishin-den-Shin
In this project we explore the use of the human body as sound transmission medium. Called “Ishin-Den-Shin,” a Japanese expression for communicating through an unspoken mutual understanding, the technology turns an audio message into an inaudible signal that is relayed by the human body.
When the communicator’s finger slightly rubs an object, this physical interaction creates an ad-hoc speaker that makes it possible to hear the recorded sounds.

FUHAFU and HA are onomatopoeic expressions which remind us of the sound our breath makes when air is exhaled. FU represents blowing into a substance to cool it down, and HA is about warming something up.For Milan Design Week 2015, Fabrica collaborated with Daikin (Italy) to explore a personal relationship with air. We createda series of installations where air became the designer and could be seen, heard or felt through each of the works.

Playful SelfPlayful Self is an interactive exhibition piece for the Dublin Science Gallery which illustrates our research on a future of “biometric body data transfer”.In the exhibition, visitors can interact with objects which, when touched, instantly receive their personal body data and reflect it immediately in different ways.In the future we can assume that all biometrics of our body will be available instantly or continuously. Most objects around us will listen to our “body data” and react accordingly. Our installation encourages visitors to experience such a future, so that they might become more aware of the objects around them and consider if those objects could or should be listening.

The Yawn ChorusWe’re creating a yawning orchestra.

We’ve created an Artificial Intelligence that can identify yawns. It’s able to recognize them during, or even before the yawn strikes! As yawns are contagious for humans (and actually many animals), our AI can trigger chain reactions of yawns by capturing and releasing yawns.

Sit, lay, relax and listen to our AI sing melodies constructed purely out of the yawns of guests.

As our festival progresses, the computer will learn more and more how to identify yawns. It will become smarter in predicting and also evoking them. While our AI captures more yawns, it is actually capturing more “instruments” for its orchestra. Watch as our AI musician moves from a 1 computer band, to a thousand strong orchestra of yawns.

CoveTalking about our emotions can be difficult. Not being able to find the words to express your feelings can sometimes lead to saying nothing at all. We believe everyone should be able to say how they feel.

Music and emotions go hand in hand.
Making music can be a very personal way to express yourself. By storing the music you make in Cove, you can listen back to periods of your life. If you choose to share music with someone, you can communicate even complex feelings easily.
